Dr. Mandy Fretts, associate professor of Epidemiology and faculty investigator in the CHRU shares her personal experience that helped shape her interest in studying preventable diseases in such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease, especially for Indigenous and American Indian communities like her own.
“Most of these conditions are largely preventable,” Fretts said. “I really wanted to focus my work on prevention and management, with the goal of developing effective and sustainable interventions to promote optimal health in American Indian communities.”
